Location: 1889 W. 25th St., Cleveland, OH 44113
Brunch hours: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday
SOHO Chicken + Whisky is a little taste of the South in the heart of Cleveland. This charming little spot specializes in fried chicken and chicken sandwiches along with other Southern classics. The other lynchpin of the restaurant’s menu is its whiskey-based cocktails, which offer a unique spin on old favorites like the Manhattan and old-fashioned.
Every Sunday, SOHO Chicken + Whiskey offers a fantastic southern-inspired brunch that adds some delicious items to its menu. These include shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, a fried chicken bun, and a southern benedict with fried green tomatoes, country ham, and Tabasco hollandaise. Other fantastic options include steak and eggs and the Mexican classic chilaquiles. For those with a sweet tooth, consider the crispy beignets.
No brunch would be complete without drinks, and SOHO takes this part very seriously. They provide an extensive menu of specialty brunch drinks that’s almost as long as the food list. If you still need a pick-me-up, consider the kitchen brew, which includes whisky, coffee, and bourbon cream. Other great options include the espresso martini, mimosa, bloody mary, and Hawaiian brunch. Please note that the restaurant is small and can only accommodate groups of six or fewer. If you want to make reservations, you can do so over the phone.
Toast
Location: 1365 W. 65th St., Cleveland, OH 44102
Brunch hours: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday
Located in Cleveland’s Gordon Square arts district, Toast is a fantastic restaurant and wine bar that offers an elevated menu and fresh ingredients. In fact, Toast is so serious about serving high-quality food that it only sources from local farmers in Northeast Ohio.
This little neighborhood hangout offers a warm, inviting atmosphere, housed in a charming brick building. When you enter, you’ll see the work of local artists adorning the walls. While everything on the menu is fantastic, the dishes that Toast serves for brunch truly stand out.
If you’re in the mood for something savory, consider the brisket burger, sausage and gravy, quiche, or breakfast sandwich. If you’re feeling something sweeter, you won’t do any better than the peaches and cream French toast. Toast also offers plenty of vegetarian options, so all of your friends will have something to enjoy.
Lucky’s Cafe
Location: 777 Starkweather Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113
Brunch hours: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays
Located in Tremont’s historical district, Lucky’s Cafe is a picturesque restaurant located in a repurposed house. Like Toast, Lucky’s Cafe proudly partners with a range of local farmers to procure protein, dairy, produce, and grain. This allows Lucky’s to create fantastic dishes that are both healthy and delicious.
While all of Lucky’s offerings are excellent, a very special brunch menu is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. This menu includes some items that are more on the lunch side and some that are more typical of breakfast. On the breakfast side, consider the biscuits and gravy, breakfast burrito, or omelet. If you want something extraordinary, the shipwreck is a great choice. It’s a veritable mountain of hash browns, veggies, eggs, cheese, and bacon.
If you’re in the mood for lunch, Lucky’s makes a great Reuben, as well as an excellent curried chicken salad sandwich. Next time you’re in the mood for a great brunch and support local agriculture, head over to Lucky’s Cafe.
Adega
Location: 2017 E Ninth St., Cleveland, OH 44115
Located in the Metropolitan Hotel in downtown Cleveland, Adega is a sleek, modern Mediterranean restaurant that serves updated takes on classic dishes. The interior design of the restaurant is as high-end as the food and features a magnificent glass wine vault that dominates the center of the space. Both lunch and brunch are famous at Adega, and if you live in Cleveland, it’s definitely worth stopping by on an upcoming weekend.
The restaurant’s brunch menu is succinct but effective. For appetizers, visitors can choose between polenta cubes or a three-cheese flatbread. The entree selection includes a Mediterranean-inspired benedict, a spinach, goat cheese, tomato, mushroom, and arugula frittata, a sweet basil salad, a fantastic burger, and avocado toast. Sweet options include honey ricotta pancakes and ciabatta French toast. If you just want something simple, you can go for the two-egg breakfast.
To polish off your brunch, you should definitely try one of Adega’s inventive breakfast cocktails. If you want to stay classic, get a mimosa flight or a bloody mary. If you want something a bit more adventurous, try the espresso martini or spiced ginger pear.
