What is Honda Sensing?
When you’re operating your Honda vehicle, you want to ensure that you and your passengers stay safe. With the Honda Sensing System, you can have some peace of mind while driving. Honda Sensing provides you with several safety measures to reduce collisions while driving. This leads to a safer driving experience for you and everyone else on the road as well. Read on to learn what Honda Sensing is and what it offers.
What Is the Honda Sensing System?

The Honda Sensing System is a comprehensive suite of technology that alerts you while driving. The purpose of this system is to prevent collisions or other types of car crashes. Honda Sensing detects things like other cars, road signs, and pedestrians to help you avoid hitting them. These safety features help keep you, your passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians safe. Even if you’re a careful driver, some crashes may be inevitable. The Honda Sensing System can help prevent collisions, protecting yourself and those around you. Honda automakers hope to create a “collision-free” society with this system.
What Does the Honda Sensing System Offer?
The Honda Sensing System includes several safety features to keep you safe while driving. Explore some of these features below.
Collision Mitigation Braking System
The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) senses when a collision could occur. If the technology detects an object or person, it gives visual and audio warnings to the driver. It also vibrates the accelerator pedal as a sign. CMBS is also remarkable because it can apply the car’s brakes if the driver doesn’t respond in time. Because the system brakes if it senses a potential collision, you can avoid crashing and harming yourself and others.
Road Departure Mitigation System
The Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system can adjust the vehicle’s steering and braking if you cross the detected lanes without signaling. It gives you a visual warning and vibrates the steering wheel before taking action and adjusting the vehicle. This can help you from straying off the road. The RDM system is only if you’re traveling between 45 mph and 90 mph.
Adaptive Cruise Control
Honda’s Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow allows you to maintain your vehicle’s speed at a set interval behind detected vehicles. For example, if you’re driving on the highway, ACC will sense the vehicle in front of you. To stay a safe distance from it, the system will adjust your car’s speed so it maintains enough space between you and the vehicle.
Lane Keeping Assist System
The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) adjusts your steering to help you stay in the middle of the lane. This system uses cameras to know where the lane lines are. LKAS warns the driver if they’re straying from the center of the lane. If the driver starts to cross lane lines, LKAS operates the steering wheel to redirect the vehicle. This can reduce running off the road or colliding with other cars or objects.
Traffic Sign Recognition
Traffic Sign Recognition (TRS) uses cameras to read speed limit signs and displays them to you. This technology recognizes signs as you pass them. Then, it shows the sign’s information on your dashboard and Heads-Up Display. This feature helps you be aware of the area’s speed limit, along with how fast you’re going. It can also read other signs, such as stop, no entry, and no overtaking signs.
Other Honda Sensing Features
Here are some other features that come with Honda Sensing:
Honda LaneWatch
Honda LaneWatch helps you see your blind spots when changing lanes. When you signal right, a camera on your side-view mirror turns on. It then displays what it sees on your Display Audio Touch-Screen, so you can see if there are any cars in your blind spot. This camera lets you see nearly four times more than regular side-view mirrors. However, this technology is only on select 2018 and 2019 models.
Blind Spot Information System
The Blind Spot Information System indicates when there’s another vehicle in the way as you’re switching lanes. When your turn signal is on and a vehicle is in the lane next to you, the indicator flashes and beeps. This gives you a warning that the lane isn’t clear. It stops beeping and flashing when you turn off your signal or when the lane is clear. The Blind Spot Information System is only available on select 2018 and 2019 models.
Cross Traffic Monitor
Honda Sensing’s Cross Traffic Monitor helps you safely back up by making sure there’s nothing in the way while your vehicle is in reverse. This system uses the multi-angle rearview camera to detect other vehicles that are approaching from either side of your car. The Cross Traffic Monitor will beep when it senses oncoming vehicles so that you don’t back into them. This system is only on select 2018 and 2019 models.
Auto High-Beam Headlights
The auto high-beam headlights adjust between high and low beams based on your driving conditions. This occurs when you’re driving 25 mph and when your low-beam is on auto. The system switches the beams’ intensity. For example, it might change to low beams when it detects there are vehicles ahead. Once the vehicles are gone, the headlights automatically switch to high beams.
What Models Have Honda Sensing?
Honda Sensing is available on most new Honda vehicles. A few 2020 trim levels don’t have this feature, such as the base level of the Fit hatchback, HR-V SUV, and the Odyssey minivan. As for 2021 Honda vehicles, the HR-V LX trim doesn’t come with Honda Sensing. All 2022 Hondas should come equipped with Honda Sensing. To ensure that your vehicle comes with this technology, ask our staff members which models have Honda Sensing.
You can feel at ease while driving with the Honda Sensing System. This suite of safety technology helps protect you and your passengers from collisions or other types of accidents. Even if you’re a safe driver, Honda Sensing is beneficial because some accidents are unavoidable.
